Year 7 Food Bank Visit
Our Year 7 pupils visited a local food bank called ‘The Hub’ in Highams Park to learn more about where our donated food goes and how it helps people in our community. This visit gave our pupils the chance to see real-life volunteering in action.
Pupils learnt about what is involved in running a food bank, how donations are collected, sorted, checked, and packed before being given to individuals and families who need support. They met food bank volunteers and learn about the vital role they play, they saw just how much teamwork and kindness are at the heart of everything the food bank does. pupils found out that The Hub are linked to a zero-waste company that collects any surplus food that cannot be used at this food bank. Instead of being thrown away, this food is safely transported to other food banks where it is needed, ensuring that as little food as possible goes to waste.
The Year 7 pupils then got to experience what going through the process of ‘packing a bag’ would be like with the volunteers before they left. The Year 7 pupils were very respectful and great ambassadors of the school.
