EYFS - Acts of Kindness

This week, the Early Years children continued their learning inspired by the story The Smeds and the Smoos, which highlights friendship and acts of kindness. In the story, the characters show care for one another, such as Grandpa cutting Grandma’s hair and making pink milk, and the children were encouraged to think about how they could show kindness in their own lives.

Following this, the pupils explored the book Have You Filled Your Bucket Today? and created their own kindness buckets. Using pens and pipe cleaners to decorate them, the children “filled” their buckets with invisible acts of kindness, including sharing toys, giving compliments, and using kind words. “I always help Twyla put her coat on,” said Ottilie, while Ayla added, “I always like sharing the pencils.”

Following this, the children then made dens for the Smeds and the Smoos, using a variety of materials such as twigs, logs, bark and wooden blocks. The key thing was to work together to create the dens to fill their bucket with more invisible kindness. Some of the dens even included toilets, doors, windows, lofts and gardens!

The children made a baby ‘Smoo’ coloured purple milk to end our day.
