Year 11 Ecology Required Practical Field Trip to Hyde Park
On 25th September, our Year 11 GCSE Science students enjoyed a fantastic day in Hyde Park as part of their Ecology Required Practical work.
Blessed with beautiful sunshine throughout the day, students demonstrated exemplary behaviour and were a credit to the school. They approached every task with enthusiasm, maturity and a genuine interest in the natural environment.
During the morning session, students investigated the distribution of plant species in relation to a path, using systematic sampling techniques to collect reliable data. They carefully recorded their observations and considered how human activity can influence plant communities within a habitat.
In the afternoon, students turned their attention to freshwater ecology, carrying out stratified sampling of pond invertebrates. Using their findings, they analysed patterns in species distribution and explored the factors that affect biodiversity within aquatic ecosystems.
The trip provided an excellent opportunity for students to apply their classroom learning in a real-world setting while developing essential practical and analytical skills required for their GCSE examinations. We were particularly impressed by their engagement, teamwork and professional approach throughout the day.
Well done to all involved for making the visit both successful and enjoyable. A special thank you also, to the staff who accompanied the trip and helped make the day such a memorable learning experience.
