Year 7 Bank of England Museum Trip

Year 7 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting trip to the Bank of England Museum, where they discovered how Maths is used in the real world through money and finance. During the visit, pupils learnt about the fascinating history of the Bank of England, including who founded it and how its role has changed over time. They explored the development of money and gained an understanding of the security features found on modern banknotes, as well as learning about the durable polymer material from which they are made.

The pupils also took part in interactive activities that helped them understand everyday financial concepts. They learnt the difference between debit and credit cards and discussed how bank accounts work, including deposits and withdrawals. One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to lift a real gold bar, giving pupils a memorable hands-on experience of the value and weight of precious metals. They were also able to view historic 18th-century furniture used by the Bank and even walk underneath a display containing £1,000,000, which certainly captured everyone's imagination!

The trip was a great way for pupils to connect their classroom learning to the real world, developing their financial awareness while bringing mathematics to life in an engaging and memorable way.
