Year 10 Work Experience

During the Summer Term, Year 10 pupils were given the opportunity to experience the ‘World of Work’ through a one-week work experience placement from Monday 1 June to Friday 5 June. This programme has been a highly successful part of our careers provision for many years, providing students with valuable insight into the workplace and helping them to develop important employability skills.

To ensure that the experience was as meaningful and relevant as possible, pupils were encouraged to secure their own placements by making use of family, community, and professional connections, while also seeking support and guidance from the school where needed.

Picture1The placements provided pupils with the opportunity to develop greater independence, including travelling to and from work placements, adapting to unfamiliar environments, and building confidence in professional settings. Students also enhanced their communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and organisational skills while gaining a better understanding of workplace expectations and responsibilities.

Many pupils were able to secure placements linked to their interests and future career aspirations, allowing them to explore potential career pathways and make informed decisions about their future education and employment choices.

Placement sectors included:

• Finance
• Engineering
• Law
• Medicine and Healthcare
• Hospitality
• Education

Feedback from both employers and pupils was overwhelmingly positive, with many students demonstrating maturity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn throughout the week. The experience has provided a valuable foundation as pupils begin to consider their future career pathways and prepare for life beyond school.
