Year 4 Explore Electricity

This week, Year 4 pupils have started exploring the world of electricity and learnt about series circuits. They began by identifying the equipment needed to make electricity flow: cells (batteries), wires, and bulbs.

They impressed their teachers with their precision as they learned to draw these components using standard scientific symbols. The pupils also explored how a switch acts like a bridge; when it’s closed, the electricity has a complete path to travel, but when it’s open, the "gap" stops the flow instantly.

The classroom was then filled with whirring and beeping as they added motors and buzzers to their loops. Pupils then worked in teams to build their own circuits from scratch, they also found out the hard way that sometimes the circuits just do not work but they were excellent at troubleshooting and finding out which wires were in the wrong place and why a buzzer might not beep or a bulb might not light. It was fantastic to see such brilliant teamwork and scientific enquiry in action. Well done Year 4!
