Normanhurst Pupils Shine in Shakespeare Week Competition

In a remarkable display of talent, three Year 6 pupils from Normanhurst School have been highly commended in the annual Shakespeare Week Competition. Kuzey, Nina, and Daaniya captivated the judges with their imaginative and engaging diary entries, written from the perspective of Judith, William Shakespeare’s daughter, focusing on the tragic events surrounding the death of her twin brother, Hamnet.

Daaniya’s entry delved into the days leading up to Hamnet’s unfortunate death. She succesfully described how Judith noticed Hamnet acting strangely and her feelings of something missing, capturing the emotional turmoil of a sibling sensing approaching loss.

Kuzey focused on the day after Hamnet’s death, portraying Judith’s suspicion and curiosity about the circumstances. He imagined Judith’s frustration with her parents’ seemingly indifferent reaction, which encouraged her to uncover the truth about Hamnet’s passing.

Nina’s narrative added a dramatic twist, with Judith discovering that Hamnet had been stealing Shakespeare’s scripts and that poison was involved in his death. This creative angle used elements of mystery, showcasing Nina’s storytelling and creativity skills.

Their entries demonstrated not only a strong grasp of Shakespeare’s family but also outstanding creative writing skills. The judges highlighted our pupils’ ability to make their narratives engaging and authentic, noting the impressive blend of factual accuracy and imagination.

As Normanhurst, we are immensely proud of Kuzey, Nina, and Daaniya for their outstanding achievement. Their success in the Shakespeare Week Competition is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and passion for Shakespeare Week. It is also a great addition to our special invite to Shakespeare’s Birthplace where Lachlan, Mason and Diana visited to take part in special celebratory events and workshops leading up to Shakespeare Birthday. We are already looking forward to next year’s competition!
