On the 8th of July, all the senior Warren pupils went to the Harlow Outdoor Centre, where we participated in a variety of activities. Pupils were divided into 5 groups. The group members were all from different year groups, which gave the opportunity for the Year 7’s to meet and interact with some of the older pupils from Year 9 and 10. Every group participated in one wet and one dry activity. The dry activities was climbing and mountain biking, and the wet activities was kayaking and bumble
During the morning session, my group did mountain biking. We were issued with good quality bikes, and all the necessary safety equipment, such as helmets and arm pads. First we were taught how to use the gears and how to cycle downhill. Our route consisted of gravel and dirt tracks, which at times were very narrow. I really enjoyed this activity a lot and hope to do it again in the future.
For our afternoon activity, my group did Kayaking. Again we were taught all the basic elements of kayaking, like paddling and balancing the kayak with our knees. As soon as we all got the hang of it, we started playing games and having races in our kayaks.
I enjoyed my first house trip, because I had to opportunity to challenge myself and interact with pupils from other year groups.

On the 8th of July, Warren went on a trip to the Harlow Outdoor Centre. On arrival we were told which groups we were in. This was a surprise, because Mr Botha told us that the year 7’s will not be in a group and that the groups will have pupils from different year groups. We had the experience of working with other year groups and got to know them.
There were 4 activities to choose from: Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Bumble and Climbing.
My group did Kayaking and Mountain biking. First we did Kayaking; we had to get the correct equipment before we went into the water. We learned how to use a Kayak and then we played games in the Kayak, It was great fun until I capsized and fell into the freezing water. I was swimming for 15 minutes until the session ended, because I was not able to get back into my Kayak.
After Kayaking, my group did Mountain biking. This was my favourite activity. We learned how to ride a bike with gears. It was great fun, because we were riding during heavy rain, which made the course slippery and exciting. Mountain biking is harder than it looks and I fell a few times, once into a bush of stinging nettles.
My first house trip was amazing and I am already forward to next year’s trip. Thank you Mr Botha for organising the trip and to all the staff attached to Warren for going with us to Harlow.
