Junior STEM Fortnight. Part 3

Global Recycling Day 2023

During the final week of STEM Fortnight, the children also celebrated Global Recycling Day, which was celebrated globally on Saturday 18th March 2023. They took some time to discuss the importance of recycling and how they can encourage others to recycle more in order to save our planet.

Year 5 Trip to Kew Gardens

On Thursday, the students in Year 5 had a fantastic day at Kew Gardens. They all thoroughly enjoyed the exciting workshop, in which they had to put on their detective hats and help solve the stolen plant crime. The children had to discover the uses of different plants and consider which of the suspects would have wanted to steal them. We were very impressed by their problem solving and team work skills during the task. Further to this, they were amazed by the beautiful plants and trees that surrounded them. They also loved seeing many different creatures around the gardens, including a fox and many Egyptian and Canadian geese. The children also loved having some time to explore the Children’s Garden play area. All in all, it was a super day out and the children are looking forward to going back to Kew Gardens again in the future.

Year One and Two Trip to the Science Museum

The students in Key Stage One had a wonderful time exploring the Science Museum and learning more about how astronauts live and work in space. From floating poop, recycling water, trying on enormous space gloves, and inspecting astronaut diapers and a real piece of the moon, the students had lots of fun discovering facts about space. They also enjoyed seeing some of the most iconic objects from the past 250 years such as Apollo 10 and the steam engine.
