On Saturday 2 November Normanhurst School celebrated 90 years since the school’s foundation with a reunion event at the school in Station Road.
Guests were treated to a champagne and canapé reception served by the school’s caterers, tours of the school by current pupils and prefects guiding the visitors around the site, and a jazz band provided a musical backdrop in the marquee.
Over one hundred past pupils (the oldest former pupil having joined the school in 1934 as a junior) and members of staff attended and had the opportunity to see how much the school has developed and changed. Hundreds of photographs were displayed along with film footage of past school shows and Speech Days.
On a truly memorable afternoon, guests were invited to pen their memories of their time at the school with the aim of collating a memoir in time for the centenary in 2023.
School Principal Matthew Hagger said, “With only ten years to go until our centenary the focus of the day was to start the process of putting together a comprehensive history of the school that can be published to mark 100 years in 2023. Everybody who attended played a part in that process and they spent much time sharing with us their memories of their time with us. Many even brought in additional memorabilia for us to use. Normanhurst is a successful school and we are in the fortunate position of being able to celebrate so many successes so frequently. Exam results are excellent, inspection reports are outstanding and standards are extremely high.”
