To further develop their World War II knowledge, Year 6 visited Duxford Aviation Museum.
As soon as they entered the museum, Year 6 were greeted by an army helicopter that flew over them and landed nearby, with many other small planes taking off and landing during their visit too. Our pupil’s first stop was the 1940s Control Room, which was crucial during the Battle of Britain. The children learnt why this battle was important and how the Spitfire planes were crucial to helping the RAF.
There were so many opportunities for pupils to get close to various aircraft, and they were even allowed to enter some of the bigger ones. The children visited the D-Day exhibition, watching a short movie that explained how the landings changed the course of the war and about the USA’s involvement. They then inspected some of the vehicles that were used during this time. Year 6 pupils were also able to handle some of the replica items, outfits, and weapons that were used during the war.
It was an extremely informative day for all the pupils, and they thoroughly enjoyed their visit.
