Museum Of Power

As part of their Science topic on Electricity, Year 4 visited the Museum of Power in Maldon for an educational trip. Firstly, the children took part in a Mad Science Workshop. They were shown how electricity conducts through Coke a Cola, introduced to electromagnets, and saw the power of magnets with iron filings patterns.

Next, was a tour of the on-site model village. The children were challenged to find different magical creatures (fairies and gnomes) and treated to fairy crystals as a prize.

The children finished their day with two workshops on circuit building and investigating conductors and insulators. Before leaving the museum, the pupils were able to start up the 91-year-old steam pumping engine called ‘Marshall’. Which takes pride of place in the pumping station hall.
