Year 5 & 6 Maths Week

Researching:

The pupils were split into mixed groups to research two names who made great contributions to the world of STEM: Nikola Tesla and Alan Turing. They worked in their groups using the iPads to research and create a PowerPoint presentation, which they later presented to their peers and teachers. The pupils were very knowledgeable about their own project but were also able to pick up facts from the other groups’ projects, too. The pupils showed excellent computing and presenting skills in this task!

Party Planning:

The Year 5 and 6 pupils were given the task of planning a World Book Day party, either for their own year group or a younger class. They were given a budget per class and had to find food, drinks and come up with games for the parties staying within the budget and not a penny over! All the plans met the budget requirements and in were in good detail. The parties were a great success and enjoyed by all pupils on World Book Day itself, the pupils had to set up for the party they had planned in order for it to go ahead too. We have some future event planners here!

Treasure Hunt:

All of the pupils were given a treasure hunt solving Maths questions that were hidden around the school. They had to complete this in small groups in order to receive their treasure. The pupils worked collaboratively whilst on this quest and luckily, all pupils in Year 5 and 6 were prosperous in the Treasure Hunt and all received their treasure!

Forest Fun:

During one of the mornings in the week, the Year 5 and 6 pupils ventured out into the local Forest to once again work in their groups to create 2D shapes using the materials they could find in the forest. They were given strict rules about shape, perimeter and area. The teams worked hard to create their shapes as they were then carefully measured by their teachers to check they met the criteria. Considering none of the pupils had any resources to measure the shapes, just their eye, they all met the criteria and impressed their teachers!

100 days of school:

As well as wearing their incredible t-shirts, the Year 5 and 6 pupils celebrated their 100th day of school by writing down 100 things they had learnt this year and completing a variety of exercises for 100 seconds.

A very busy but successful week had by all, well done to all the pupils in Year 5 and 6.
