The life- long consequences of drug abuse were portrayed to senior pupils during a talk by Darren Gold from Drugs Alert. Gold, a former Addict told our pupils during PHSE that his criminal record has a number of consequences which also impact on his wife and child.
Included in the list of consequences were a four-fold increase in insurance premiums and problems getting a job, as potential employers check back on records. He was also unable to visit America with the rest of his family 15 years after his conviction.
Gold went on to discuss the dangers of legal highs such as spice and laughing gas. His concluding message was “legal is not safe”, as well as reminding our pupils that any smoke including cigarettes are bad for our lungs. Pupils in 7K found his talk very informative and followed it up through diagrams in their PHSE books about what they had learned.
