Year 2’s Butterfly World Trip

The Year 2 pupils had an adventurous day at the Butterfly World Project in Saint Albans.  Animal habitats and animal life cycles are part of the Year 2  Science Curriculum.  On this trip the pupils did not just learn about the interesting (and sometimes short)  life of some butterflies and moths, but also investigated habitats, camouflage and mimicry.  The pupils were able to hold an Australian Spiny Stick insect who mimics a leaf blowing in the wind to protect itself from predators and feel a giant slug slither over their hands!  The highlight of the day was the scene of colourful fluttering butterflies in the Tropical Butterfly House where some pupils’ faces and hands became a quick rest stop for some of these beautiful insects.  It was a marvellous day!
