Congratulations to Normanhurst pupil, Max in Year 9 for becoming a regional winner in the prestigious Fourth Plinth Art Competition.
The Competition was open to all London Schools and pupils were required to design a piece of artwork to be placed on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. There were thousands of entries representing all of the London Boroughs.
The award ceremony took place in City Hall and was hosted by the Deputy Mayor of London, Munira Mirza. This year’s judge was world famous Fourth Plinth artist Mark Wallinger who presented the awards to the pupils.
Payam Beint, Head of Art and Design at Normanhurst School was overwhelmed by the outcomes this year “I’m always really thrilled by the range and freshness of my students’ ideas. I think it’s really important to give students the chance to look at creating art as a way of communicating with the world around you.”
Max’s “Light Box” enables the plinth itself to become integrated with the artwork. Max envisaged colour light panels attached to different sections of the plinth. The colour of the panels would change in response to movement making it an interactive artwork. Max’s artwork was displayed in a stunning exhibition around the main concourse of City Hall.
